More than half the residents of slums in three areas in India's commercial capital, Mumbai, tested positive for antibodies to the coronavirus, a new survey has found.

Indian media The Telegraph reported that "based on these results, scientists will be able to investigate questions related to the theory of group immunity."

Population immunity refers to a state in which a significant number of local residents are immune to certain infectious diseases. When group immunity is formed, even if additional infections occur, rapid spread is not easy, experts say.

According to a study published at the end of last month, in June, a survey of the serum of 6936 Mumbai slums showed that 57% of them had antibodies.
