Recuperation: The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the private King Edward VII Hospital in early April for surgery after a month of severe discomfort on the advice of doctors


The Duke, who appeared to be wearing a hearing aid, popped on a pair of spectacles at one point as he drove himself around the castle grounds on Friday morning - before stopping to chat to his wife

The Queen, 92, could be seen sharing a laugh with fellow guests as they examined the schedule of events together. One of the spectators appeared to have highlighted some of the main events in yellow


Clad in dark sunglasses, a silk headscarf and a quilted jacket, the Queen could almost have passed for a ticket-holding spectator


The monarch was no doubt delighted to be joined by her husband after his recent hip operation


He's back! The Duke, 96, was spotted chatting to his wife through the window of a private car as day three of the annual equestrian event got underway this morning and appeared to be in good spirits


Refusing to miss out on the fun in spite of his condition, the elderly Duke, dressed in a navy jacket bearing a royal crest, watched the action through a pair of binoculars at one point, after an aide brought him a programme of events to read


Equestrian spectacular: Well-heeled competitors don their finery for The Coaching Marathon, one of the flagship events of the show, as the procession makes its way along the Long Walk on the third day of the Royal Windsor Horse Show


Horse and carriages taking part in the Coaching Marathon on the Long Walk this afternoon included The Defiance, hailing from London and Brighton. The vintage coach dates back to the early nineteenth century


Competitors dressed in smart clothing and towering top hats make their way down the Long Walk, which will form part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding procession when they tie the knot on Saturday May 19


Carriages taking part in the Coaching Marathon follow Harry and Meghan's procession route, with the newlyweds set to be driven along Castle Hill, into Windsor town centre before returning along the famous Long Walk for their reception


The annual events is one of the highlights of Her Majesty's calendar, and she appeared to be in excellent spirits as she chatted to fellow spectators on Friday morning. At one point she could be seen laughing uproariously 


The Duke arrived today with Lady Penelope 'Penny' Romsey, who is the wife of the Queen's cousin Lord Brabourne as well as Philip's carriage-driving companion - fuelling speculation that Philip might take part in an event today


The beaming monarch could be seen admiring the thoroughbreds after arriving for her second day at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Held in her own backyard, the castle grounds will play host to the wedding of the year next weekend


Favourite day of the year: The Queen was seen at the event on Wednesday as she with fellow spectators at the prestigious show, which has long been an unmissable event in Her Majesty's diary

The monarch was all smiles as the Royal Windsor Horse Show kicked off on Friday. Accompanied by close friend Penny Romsey and joined by her husband for the first time in weeks, she had reason to smile

The Queen looked to be in excellent spirits as she chatted to fellow equestrian lovers at the annual event, which comes to an end on Sunday. She kept warm with a navy blue quilted jacket, teamed with a pair of oval sunglasses


Her Majesty (third right) was accompanied today by Lady Penelope 'Penny' Romsey, who is the wife of the Queen's cousin and Prince Charles's mentor and childhood friend, Lord Brabourne


After a brilliant procession, set against the backdrop of Windsor Castle, the presentation of awards for the Coaching Marathon is due to take place just after 12.30pm


Harry and Meghan are due to tie the knot there next month


The Coaching Marathon is one of the most glamorous and competitive events on the Royal Windsor Horse Show lineup. The annual event is the only time of the year that guests are allowed into the palace's beautiful grounds


Busy day: Friday's timetable kicked off bright and early with the Speed Stakes at 8.15am, followed by the Land Rover Shetland Pony Grand National at 11am


On being discharged from hospital last month, it seems the 96-year-old, who is likely to still be using walking sticks or crutches at this stage, was keen not to be seen incapacitated so left ten days later after a prolonged rest

Fighting fit: It was claimed last night that the Duke, who retired from public duties in August 2017, had ditched his crutches 'just in time' for the wedding of the year as a royal insider praised his 'amazing willpower'


Speaking about the Duke's miraculous recovery this week, a source told The Sun: 'When he sets his mind to something he gets on and does it. He has been walking up and down stairs several times in succession. He has also been charging across rooms at full speed. He even had to be told to slow down'


On the mend: Buckingham Palace had previously said that Philip would continue his recovery at Windsor Castle, where the Queen is in residence, and both the Queen and Princess Anne have said he is in 'good form'
